Letran aims to reclaim solo leadership

The Letran Knights will try to regain the solo top spot when they collide against the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers on Saturday in the 89th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena in San Juan City.

Under their new head coach Caloy Garcia, the Knights will face the Bombers at 6 p.m. while the Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates and Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals, two teams sharing the second spot with identical 1-1 win-loss slate, collides at 4 p.m.

In the juniors division, the Lyceum Junior Pirates will take on the Mapua Red Robins at 12 p.m. while the Letran Squires will clash with the Jose Rizal Light Bombers at 2 p.m.

Three-year veteran Raymond Almazan, who was recently named the NCAA Press Corps Best Player of the Week, is expected to lead the Knights’ blitz.

“He [Almazan] had carried the team in our past two games. He is really a hard working player. He is very important in our offense and defensive plays,” said Garcia.
