Letran College and Jose Rizal University break their tie at fifth spot when they collide on Monday in the resumption of the National Collegiate Athletic Association seniors basketball tournament at The San Juan Arena in San Juan City.
Last year’s runner-up Knights and the Heavy Bombers face each other at 2 p.m. The other seniors match pit Lyceum of the Philippine Pirates against Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals at 4 p.m.
In the secondary competition, the Letran Squires battle against the JRU Light Bombers at 12 noon while the Lyceum Junior Pirates meet the Mapua Red Robins at 6 p.m.
A down-the-wire battle is expected between coach Caloy Garcia’s Knights and Vergel Meneses’ Bombers in their respective efforts to secure their second win and notch solo fifth position.
Garcia said they have to remain within striking distance from the leaders to bolster their confidence. Their lone win was over Mapua, 79-67, last Wednesday while the Bombers of Meneses surged to the win column following a pulsating 63-62 victory over College of St. Benilde Blazers on July 7.
Meanwhile, Earl Scottie Thompson of University of Perpetual Help was selected as the NCAA Press Corps Accel Quantum Plus/316 Player of the Week awardee for a triple-double performance in their 73-65 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College.
