Letran beats San Sebastian, ties San Beda for early NCAA lead

Last year’s runner-up Letran Knights leaned on Raymund Almazan’s four

straight points in the final 1:46 to beat the San Sebastian Stags, 74-69, in the second game of the league’s opening day Saturday.
“I told my players that the hardest game for us is the first game. We have to win the first assignment so that we can break the opening jinx, that’s always the case. Thank God we did it. I hope this will be continued as the tournament moves on. Raymund Almazan played well. He is really the big factor although credit goes also to the whole
team,” said new coach Caloy Garcia, who replaced Louie Alas.
The 6’7 veteran Almazan was top scorer for the 16-time titlist Knights with 15 points, aside from making 20 rebounds, five block shots and an assist.

The Stags join San Beda Red Lions in the leader board with one win apiece.
