Letran College secured a Final Four slot and the second twice-to-beat bonus after beating University of Perpetual Help System DALTA 93-64 on Friday in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 91 men’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
“Perpetual is a strong team that’s why we prepared a lot against them and we are happy with the result,” said Letran coach Aldin Ayo during the post game interview. “We are now looking forward to our match with San Beda.”
Mark Cruz finished with 18 points and eight assists while Kevin Racal posted 15 points. McJour Luib and Rey Publico contributed 10 points each also for the Knights. Letran finished the season with 13 wins and five losses.
Letran and reigning champion San Beda (13-5) will collide in the playoffs for the No. 1 spot next week.
The Altas were eliminated in the Final Four race after absorbing their seventh loss in 18 games.
In the first game, Jose Rizal University (JRU) beat San Sebastian College 91-69 to improve its win-loss record to 12 victories against six losses.
“We need to exert a lot of effort. More effort, more chances of winning. Less effort, less chances of winning,” said Heavy Bombers coach Vergel Meneses during the post game interview. “We did what we could and hope for the best in the playoffs.”
In the last game, the Mapua Cardinals thumped the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals 88-63 to improve their win-loss record to 12-6. JRU and Mapua will both see action in the Final Four spot playoff.
“We made some defensive adjustments in the second half, that changed the complexion of the game,” said Mapua coach Atoy Co.
San Sebastian finished the season with a 6-12 win-loss record while EAC had a 2-16 win-loss record.
