MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte: A total of P272.22 million worth of infrastructure projects had been bid out as of this week by the Department of Public Works and Highways-Southern Leyte District Engineering Office.
Assistant District Engineer Allan Eway said 26 of the 96 infrastructure projects have gone through the bidding process but awarding of contract will be done January next year, after the approval of the 2016 General Appropriations Act.
Twenty-one of the 26 are bridge projects and five are road projects.
“We will try to complete the bidding process within this quarter so that public infrastructure projects can proceed in the early part of 2016,” he said.
The conduct of early bidding activities is in support of the Aquino administration’s goal of sustaining the country’s strong economic growth through public infrastructure spending and development, according to Eway.
Under the proposed 2016 infrastructure projects based on the National Expenditure Program, the district office must implement P1.45-billion projects.
These include P160.6 million for rehabilitation, upgrading and construction of national highways; P209.21 million for widening of national roads, construction of missing gaps and off-carriageway improvement; and P596.97 million for construction and maintenance of bridges along national highways.
Also listed are P27.19 million for construction and maintenance of flood mitigation structures and drainage systems, P320 million for improvement of access road leading to tourist destinations and P90 million for construction and repair of various infrastructure projects.
