Leyte mayor to run for vice mayor

KANANGA, LEYTE: Outgoing Kananga, Leyte Mayor Elmer Capahi Codilla, the District Chairman of the United Nationalist Opposition will field his wife Rowena Nicolas-Codilla for mayor in next year’s election as he plans to run for vice mayor.

“This is the clamor of the people of Kananga that Mayor Codilla’s wife will fill in the position he [will soon]vacate, after nine years of administering the country’s geothermal energy capital,” said Kananga Vice Mayor Macario “Boy” Lumangtad, who will run as councilor next year.

Lumangtad disclosed that they want to have a continuity of the projects in the municipality.

He said that it’s the people that asked the mayor’s wife to run that’s why she just abides from such request.

Kananga, a first class municipality, hosts 700 MW Leyte Geothermal Production Field with 5 Geothermal Power Plants and 4 Optimization Power Plants that supplies power to many parts in Luzon and the Visayas. The town receives, among other benefits, one centavo benefit from the sale of electricity.

The last opponent of Mayor Elmer Codilla for mayor of the town was Matt Torres, the younger brother of 4th District of Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez.
