The Leyte Sports Academy (LSA) is extending its recruitment period of new athlete-scholars that will represent the province and the region in national sports events. Ruben Tamayo, acting LSA executive director, said they are extending the recruitment of new players until August. He said that the academy needs at least 54 more athlete-scholars to be trained for boxing, swimming and athletics this school year. Qualified scholars should be enrolled in public elementary and secondary schools. For elementary, players should be 9 to 12 years old. High school athletes should be under the age bracket of 13 to 15 years old. Recently, LSA scholars were the overall champion (girls category) in the Philippine National Games held in May 2013. Athletes from LSA earned 11 gold, 16 silver and 18 bronze medals in the recently concluded sports competition.
