CARIGARA, Leyte: The local government here is eyeing to complete the distribution of P127-million worth of emergency shelter assistance to 4,325 families, whose houses were totally damaged by super typhoon “Yolanda” nearly two years ago. As of last week, 1,618 families have already received P48.54-million shelter aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which has been given to the local government. The town kicked off the distribution on July 1. Each family got P30,000 to cover the repair of their damaged houses or to pay off debts incurred from rebuilding their homes. Mayor Eduardo C. Ong said the local social welfare development office is expected to finish the disbursement for families with totally damaged houses by the end of this month.
