The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) on Friday distributed 115 additional fire trucks to recipient cities and municipalities as part of the government’s BFP modernization program.
DILG Secretary Mel Senen S. Sarmiento led the turnover ceremony of the third batch of DILG-BFP newly procured fire trucks at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.
The fire trucks were from the 469 units the government bought from China in 2014 at a cost of P2.5 billion.
The trucks which have the capacity to contain 1,000 gallons of water cost P6 million each while the 500 gallon capacity trucks cost P5 million each.
DILG and BFP said that the country’s firefighting capability will be vastly strengthened with the additional 155 new fire trucks.
