Pandayang Lino Brocka, an annual gathering of independently produced audio-visual works from filmmakers all over the country, mounts its seventh edition this year with the theme “Liberation.”
A tribute to internationally acclaimed filmmaker and visionary, National Artist for Cinema Lino Brocka, the 7th Pandayang Lino Brocka aims to arouse critical consciousness and progressive initiative among its audience. Brocka has long advocated the creation of films that are meant to disturb the consciousness. His political perspectives are reflected in his body of work—Tinimbang ka Ngunit Kulang, Maynila sa Kuko ng Liwanag, among others—which highlighted the plight of the oppressed.
Tudla Productions, an alternative non-profit group of independent filmmakers has been spearheading the production since 2009 with funding from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
For the fourth consecutive year, Tudla Productions will be launching the 7th Pandayang Lino Brocka Political Film and New Media Festival at the University of the Philippines’ Cine Adarna on August 27.
Interested filmmakers may submit their works until July 30 via email (pandayanglinobrocka@yahoo). For more details, contact festival director Ericka Cruz at 0917-8606353, or visit www.pandayanglinobrocka.com.
