Mandarin Oriental Manila’s MO Lounge was the center of attraction as the hotel lit up its striking 20-foot live Noble Fir Christmas “Tree of Hope” in the recently held tree-lighting ceremony and Christmas concert.
The ceremony, which was held with the support of Universal Harvester Inc., signified the beginning of the holiday festivities in the hotel, and supportive the objective of The Outstanding Farmers of the Philippines (TOFARM) to uplift the lives of displaced farmers and their families who were affected by the recent calamity wrought by Typhoon Yolanda.
Joining Mandarin Oriental Manila’s General Manager Torsten Van Dullemen and Universal Harvester Inc. Executive Vice President Dr. Milagros How in lighting the Tree of Hope was Eleuterio Indic, a TOFARM 2013 awardee and farmer from Tacloban who survived the typhoon, and a symbol of hope for all of a farmers affected by the calamity.
Rommel Cunanan, chairman of TOFARM, gave a stirring presentation of the situation of farmers in the areas devastated by the catastrophic typhoon. To support the evening’s beneficiary, the host encouraged guests to make pledge and contribution for the benefit of the farmers and to help in rebuilding of farmlands and crops.
The Metro Manila Concert Orchestra, under the baton of Music Director Professor Josefino Chino Toledo, serenaded guests with beautiful Christmas carols that lasted until the end of the program, a fitting end to the evening festivities.
