Lights out for star-studded Galaxy as Seattle advance

LOS ANGELES: The Los Angeles Galaxy’s bid for a record sixth MLS Cup crown came to a juddering halt on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) as the reigning champions suffered a season-ending 3-2 defeat to the Seattle Sounders in the opening round of the playoffs. In the night’s other game, D.C. United advanced to the next round with an 83rd-minute goal from leading goal-scorer Chris Rolfe to complete a 2-1 comeback win over the New England Revolution at RFK Stadium.
