Promising netter Alberto Lim Jr. posted a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 win over Constantin Bittoun Kouzmine of France to advance to the second round of the 2016 French Open juniors singles being held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris.
The 15-year old Lim scored three aces and converted five of nine break-point opportunities including two in the deciding set.
It was his first time to reach the second round of singles play in a Grand Slam tournament. He lost in the first round in the 2016 Australian Open in January and got booted out in the qualifying of the US Open in 2015.
Lim, however, will be up against World No. 3 Ulises Blanch of US, who recently ruled the 57° Trofeo Bonfiglio in Milan, Italy.
Blanch barged into the second round by blasting Duarte Vale of Portugal, 6-2, 6-2, in their first-round meeting.
Meanwhile, Filipino Treat Huey and Belarusian Max Mirnyi bowed out of contention in the men’s doubles event.
They suffered a 4-6, 4-6 loss to French duo Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the third round.
Benneteau and Roger-Vasselin, both veterans of Grand Slam events, nailed 72 points including four aces while Huey and Mirnyi only scored 62 and were marred by three double faults.
For reaching the third round, Huey and Mirnyi pocketed 37,000 Euros consolation purse.
In mixed doubles, Huey and Slovenian partner Andreja Klepac were playing fifth seeds Bruno Soares of Brazil and Elena Vesnina of Russia when the game was halted due inclement weather condition.
Soares and Vesnina were leading, 7-5, 1-1.
