By virtue of his current world ranking, Filipino junior netter Alberto Lim Jr. is now assured of a spot in the main draw of the 2016 Australian Open Juniors Championships scheduled on January 23 to 30 in Melbourne, Australia.
The 16-year old Lim is ranked 22nd in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings after earning 510 points in singles and 590 points in doubles in the 2015 season.
Lim earned huge points when he ruled the China Junior 14 in Nanjing in August (150 points), Delhi ITF Juniors in India in January (100) and India ITF Junior 1 in New Delhi also in January (60).
He also got 80 points in reaching the semifinals of the 25th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup ITF Junior Tennis Championship in Malaysia in March, and 60 each in barging to the quarterfinals of the Prince George’s County International Hard Court Junior Tennis Championship in US in August and Seogwipo Asia Oceania Closed Junior Championships in South Korea in November.
Besides his three singles titles, Lim bagged four doubles crowns – the Asian Closed Junior Championships in India (120), Seogwipo Asia Oceania Closed Junior Championships (120), 25th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup ITF Junior Tennis Championship (100) and China Junior 14 (100).
Last year, Lim was able to participate in three Grand Slam tournaments – French Open, Wimbledon and US Open – but failed to advance to the medal round.
