Filipino Alberto Lim Jr. advanced to the boys’ singles semifinals of the Hong Kong Open Junior Tennis Championships 2013 being held at the Victoria Park Tennis Courts in Causeway Bay.
The No. 6 seed Lim marched into the next round after routing Hei Yin Andrew Li of Hong Kong, 6-1, 6-1, in their quarterfinal match.
Lim will be up against the winner of South Korean Chan-Yeong Oh-Taiwanese Liang Yu Richard Lin quarterfinal match in the Grade 3 tournament sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation.
Earlier, Lim won against Chak Pong Marco Lam of Hong Kong, 4-6, 6-2, 3-0 (retired) in their second round and Tung-Lin Wu of Taiwan, 7-5 (retired) in the opening round.
The day’s biggest casualty was top seed Jurence Zosimo Mendoza, who absorbed a shocking 2-6, 2-6 loss to unseeded Soon Woo Kwon of South Korea in the second round.
In doubles, Lim and Mendoza cruised into the semifinals via an easy 0-1 (retired) win over Thailand’s Atikan Juprang and Nawakan Khunjan. They earlier defeated Taiwan’s Han Yu Chen and Tung-Lin Wu, 7-5, 2-6, 10-5.
Lim and Mendoza will be facing the winner between No. 3 Lin Wei-De and Yang Shang-Chi of Taiwan, and wild card entry Chak Pong Marco Lam and Anthony Jackie Tang of Hong Kong.
