Top junior netters Alberto Lim Jr. and Khim Iglupas barged into the quarterfinals of the Asian B1 ITF Pune Open Junior Tennis Championship being held at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune, India.

Lim hardly broke a sweat in beating Indian Adil Kalyanpur in the second round, 6-3, 6-2, while Iglupas scored the day’s biggest upset by ousting fourth seed Zhima Du of China via 6-3, 6-4 decision.

The 16-year-old Lim, the youngest men’s singles champion in the Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open, will be meeting fifth pick Yunosuke Tanaka of Japan, who earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Tao Mu of China.

On the other hand, Iglupas hopes to pull off another shocker when she battles No. 8 Naho Sato of Japan, a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Nidhi Surapaneni of India in the tournament sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation.

In doubles, Alberto Lim Jr. and Indian partner Nikshep Ballekere Ravinkumar continued their sterling run as they beat South Korea’s Seon Yong Han and Hong Kong’s Ching Lam, 6-3, 6-2, to reach the semifinals.

Lim and Ravinkumar are expected to go all-out in the semifinals against top seeds Tanaka and compatriot Toru Horie.

Tanaka and Horie overpowered Siddhant Banthia of India and Rimpei Kwakami of Japan, 6-1, 7-5, in the other quarterfinal match.

Iglupas and Japanese Himari Sato, however, suffered a 4-6, 6-7 (5) defeat at the hands of the second-seeded pair of Mayuka Aikawa of Japan and Pranjala Yadlapalli of India.
