Lim named acting Comelec chairman

ommission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Christian Robert Lim will serve as acting chairman of the poll body beginning February 3, as temporary replacement for Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr., who is set to retire on Monday.

According to Brillantes, the remaining commissioners agreed on Wednesday to appoint Lim as the acting chairman of the Comelec.

“[The consensus of the commissioners is that the senior commissioner, who is Christian Robert Lim, should be my temporary replacement]” he said.

Brillantes explained that the decision to appoint Lim sat well with Comelec Commissioner Al Parreño.

Commissioner Luie Guia is in Indonesia on official business.

The consensus was arrived at during the final regular en banc meeting of Brillantes and Commissioners Lucenito Tagle and Elias Yusoph, who are also retiring on February 2.

In April 2011, Lim was appointed by President Benigno Aquino 3rd as Comelec commissioner.

He was part of the legal team of the Aquino-Roxas Bantay Balota group during the 2010 elections.
