Filipino Alberto Lim Jr. and Vietnamese partner Nam Hoang Ly topped the boys’ doubles event of the 2015 Asian Closed Junior Championship held at the Khanna Tennis Stadium in New Delhi, India.
The top-seeded Lim and Ly overpowered Sora Fukuda and Renta Tokuda of Japan, 6-3, 6-4, in the finals of the Grade B tournament sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation.
Lim and Ly made it to the finals by crushing another Japanese duos Yuya Ito and Yusuke Takahashi in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-4, and Rio Noguchi and Daisuke Sumizawa in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-2.
They also defeated Indians Adil Kalyanpur and Anurag Nenwani in the opening round, 6-3, 6-3.
In singles, Lim opened his bid with a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Nenwani before absorbing a heart-breaking 6-4, 4-6, 6-7 (4) loss to Naoto Kai of Japan in the second round.
Filipina netters Maia Bernadette Balce and Khim Iglupas also failed to advance to the medal round of the girls’ singles.
Balce scored a 7-5, 6-2 win over Prinkle Singh of India in the first round but bowed to top seed Zheng Wushuang of China in the second round, 3-6, 1-6, while Iglupas surrendered to Indian Nidhi Surapaneni in the first round, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
