Former Mayor Alfredo Lim is not giving up his fight for the mayoralty post of Manila as his supporters strongly believe that he was the real winner and not Mayor Joseph ‘Erap” Estrada.
The Lim camp said an election protest was initiated by a certain Mhalou Laderas, a concerned citizen from Tondo, who took the lead by opening two Facebook accounts:
“Mayor Fred S. Lim Laban Natin ‘To” and “Pisokadaboto.”
The first account is for the recount of the votes. The second, as a fund-raising campaign wherein the money raised will be used to finance Lim’s election protest.
Laderas called on the more than 280,000 city residents who voted Lim to donate one peso each in support of the protest plan against Estrada.
Laderas said she and her friends were strongly convinced that Lim was cheated because on Monday night there were counting machines or CD cards that were delivered past 12 midnight to the Rizal Sports Stadium.
She said the board of canvassers never questioned or sought explanation for the delay.
Laderas also claimed that there were abrupt “changes” in the number of votes that favored Estrada instead of Lim.
She stressed that the initial counting of votes on Monday night showed Lim leading by a wide margin.
Estrada gained a lead of 2,000 votes at 11 p.m. Monday, enough to defeat Lim.
The 2,000 lead was maintained the following day, which convinced the city board of canvassers headed by Antonette Aceret to proclaim Estrada as mayor and Councilor Honey Lacuna-Pangan as vice mayor.
Officially, Estrada got 283,149 votes, while Lim received 280,464 votes.
