Outgoing Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim yesterday urged all city hall employees to support of the administration of newly elected Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada.
In a speech yesterday at the regular weekly flag-raising ceremony, Lim said:”Kung hindi man ninyo mapantayan, higitan nyo and serbisyong ibibigay ninyo para sa bagong administrasyon dahil yan ang inaasahan ng tao sa inyo,” Lim said.
Some city employees at the ceremony were seen shedding tears as they listened to Lim.
He thanked the employees for their support and cooperation during his incumbency. He stressed that as public servants, it is their duty to serve the public in the best way they can “no matter who sits at the helm of the administration.”
Councilor Lou Veloso, Lim’s running mate in the elections, lauded the mayor for having surpassed the people’s expectations and leaving behind a city replete with institutions, providing free basic services especially in terms of education and health care.
Veloso said he takes pride in their tandem’s having waged “a good, clean fight” during the elections, as he assured the public that he and Lim will continue to be serve in their own individual capacity.
