• Local clubs shine in PH Ice Hockey tilt

Four local teams toppled their respective rivals in the elimination round of the 2017 Philippine Ice Hockey Tournament on Thursday at the SM Megamall ice skating rink in Mandaluyong City.

Team Pilipinas bested Taiwan in a shoot off, 2-2 (3-2).

Carl Montano scored the third goal that allowed Pilipinas to run away with a victory.

“They’re a great team that’s why I am very happy that we’ve been able to upend them,” said Montano, who was hailed the top scorer with two points.

Paul Sanchez who scored the first point and goalie Gianpietro Iseppi, who foiled several attempts of the Taiwanese squad, supported Montano.

Pilipinas is currently holding a 2-0 card after beating Seoul Thunder last Wednesday.

Besides Pilipinas, the other local teams that posted victories were the Islanders who subdued the Ramas 4-3, the Islanders Red who defeated the Singapore Sting 4-0 and the Old Puckers who trounced the Pylons 5-2.

Tournament director Francois Gautier was elated with the performance of the national team. He said that this national tournament is an opportunity for Pilipinas players to gauge some of their Southeast Asian rivals in the upcoming 29th Southeast Asian Games on August 19 to 31 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
