ILOILO CITY: More than 200 local politicians elected on the May 13 midterm elections here and in the fourth and fifth districts of the province of Iloilo took their oath on Tuesday as members of the LP-Ugyon regional party hosted by party President Niel Tupas Sr., also Liberal Party chairman in Iloilo. The mass oath taking was presided by Ugyon Party secretary general, reelected Congressman Niel Tupas Jr. of the fifth district of Iloilo and witnessed by reelected Gov. Arthur Defensor of Iloilo and new Vice Gov. Raul Tupas. Ugyon, whose political mother is the Liberal Party, boasts of more than 5,000 members in the city and province, launched an expansion program to strengthen its broad base and develop the party interest. Tupas Jr. said there is strong possibility for Ugyon to evolve as a partylist and to have its own partylist congressman. But they are not yet discussing about it and the main concern is to expand membership with authority from the major administration party and develop political consciousness of the Ilonggos.
