Lopsided wins marked the second day of the elimination round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) football tournament as defending champion San Beda College (SBC), Arellano University (AU) and College of Saint Benilde (CSB) soundly demolished their foes at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Thursday.
In the first match, Arellano posted a commanding 7-0 victory against the Emilio Aguinaldo College for their second consecutive win.
The Chiefs started hot with a goal by Jumbeng Guinabang in the 16th minute that paved the way for six more goals throughout the match. It was EAC’s second straight loss.
Meanwhile, Saint Benilde also maintained their position in the winning column with a 7-0 win against the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA in the succeeding game.
The match started slow for both squads but a strike by Vincent Lovitog in the 38th minute sparked the game-winning rally for the Blazers.
Consequently, banking on a 12-0 victory in their first match in the competition, reigning champions San Beda scored another resounding victory, 17-0, against the Mapua Institute of Technology.
According to head coach Christopher Pedimonte, he did not expect their lead to be that big but he is hoping that the win will give them the momentum to successfully defend their crown.
“I did not expect that the result of the game will be like this but I told my boys that this win means that we are doing good. I told them that the positive thing that we can take from this is that we are gaining momentum,” he said.
He stressed that the win is a result of the collective efforts of his wards.
