The Filipino-Australian team of Los Tamaraos posted an 8-7 comeback victory over the China-based Tang Polo in the 2nd Globalport Philippine Polo Open Tournament at the Manila Polo Club in Makati City on Sunday. Max Charlton finished with five points including the penalty goal in the final period while Cole Aguirre contributed three points for the Tamaraos.
Globalport and last year’s champions San Miguel both finished third.
The tournament began on March 3 with six international teams competing in two zones. The winners from each zone moved on to the championship round. In the Sultan Cup Patron All-Star game, selected players from six teams competed in an even four-chukker match. The Greens was composed of event host businessman Mikee Romero with Manot Montilla, and Mariano “Nino” Obregon. The Reds included Inigo Zobel, Tonio Veloso, Guillermo Cavanagh, and Robin Lourvanij. The game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Also held during the event was a runway show featuring the summer collection of Folded n Hung and a gala dinner led by Romero for the benefit of the families of the fallen “SAF 44.”
