‘I do’s’ draw closer for Rochelle Pangilinan and Arthur Solinap
After starring in the hit primetime TV series “Someone To Watch Over Me,” Lovi Poe and Tom Rodriguez are together again, this time in a movie. The two GMA Network stars have signed a contract with Sineko Productions to do “The Significant Other” under the direction of Joel Lamangan. Their co-stars in this drama flick are Dina Bonnevie, Snooky Serna and Erich Gonzales.
Tom and Lovi are excited to work together again after their successful soap. They ended up reminiscing their characters on the teleserye when they read the script of the Sineko project.
“Dito kasi, ‘Hon’ din ang tawagan namin just like in Someone To Watch Over Me. But in this movie, we’re not husband and wife like in our series,” revealed Tom.
“We’re actually very thankful to star in the movie together because we’re very comfortable with each other. We’ve developed a very good friendship while doing our soap so working together again is something like an extension of the series. Happy talaga ako when I learned that I’m working again with Tom,” Lovi enthused.
In The Significant Other, Lovi plays the role of a fashion model together with Erich. Tom, on the other hand, is a hunky surgeon. How the paths of these two very different characters cross will be one of the main elements of the story.
“It’s exciting because it’s so modern, the story is so now. And because the backdrop of the story is the fashion world, siyempre ang gaganda ng mga damit na isusuot namin,” Lovi further said with glee.
Shooting will commence soon, and Tom hopes that taping for his ongoing prime time series “I Heart Davao” will be finished before he starts on the movie.
“As of now, the story of I Heart Davao is getting more and more exciting. My character Ponce, sobra siyang emo. Pareho sila ng personality ni Mang Jun, the dad of Ailene. Wherever this emo attitude will bring Ponce, yun ang malalaman natin. I tell you now, there are many more hilarious, even wacky scenes that you will see in I Heart Davao,” Tom promised.
It’s not only Tom who is busy with a TV show, of course. Lovi is also taping for “Mulawin Versus Ravena” but is grateful for a lighter schedule.
“Because there are so many characters in the series—it’s an ensemble—there are days when I don’t have scenes to tape and it’s actually very light on my part. The hardest part is my heavy costume as Magindara, the goddess of water. Ang maganda pa, Magindara has her own story. Abangan dapat ng viewers because may mabubuo sa pagmamahalan ni Magindara at ni Siklab,” said Lovi, referring to the character of Dion Ignacio.
“Oo nga, ang ganda pa naman nu’ng romantic scene ni Magindara at ni Siklab. It started under the water then he brought her to the air. It was so beautiful, kaibang love scene. Hindi naman obvious na nanonood ako ng Mulawin, di ba?” Tom quipped.
Besides their thriving careers, Tom and Lovi are both happy with their personal lives. Tom is very open about his relationship with Carla Abellana, while Lovi does not deny she is seeing French-Filipino businessman Chris Johnson. They are proud to say that they don’t have any problems with their respective “sweethearts,” as they put it, even if they are often paired in different projects.
“It’s never an issue between me and Carla,” Tom declared. “We’re both actors so we have a deep understanding of our jobs. She doesn’t show any hint of jealousy when I’m paired with other leading ladies. Kay Lovi naman, I’ve met Chris and I found him a cool guy, very down to earth. Mabait siya.”
“On my part,” Lovi interjected, “Chris also understands the nature of my job as an actress and he is very supportive. And me and Carla naman, we’re very good friends. She’s one of my best friends in the industry. Pag kaming dalawa, wala yung mga jealousy issues,” she ended.
Andrea Torres was clad in a sexy black bareback dress when Showbuzz bumped into her at the lobby of GMA Network Center. She volunteered she had taping for the new season of “Alyas Robinhood” that day had to make a quick stop at the network because she was signing her new contract with the bosses.
“It’s good that I have a late call time today so I can do the contract signing first. I’m so happy that I’m still with my GMA family. You’ve seen me grow up here. I started hosting ‘Ka-blog’ when I was a teenager until I tried acting and reached this stage in my career. I’m so thankful to GMA that they were with me every step I took. Never nila ‘kong pinabayaan and I really can’t complain with the way they’re handling my career.”
Right after the contract signing, Andrea proceeded to her taping, which she always looks forward to.
“Sobrang saya namin sa taping. We’re like one big happy family. Magkakasundo lahat ng cast. I think it’s because we have a director who’s so cool. Direk Dom (Zapata) makes the atmosphere on the set so light with his his jokes and his very good relationship with everyone.”
What makes Andrea more excited about Alyas Robinhood is her role as Venus which, as she puts it, is leveling up.
“Venus is more fierce and, of course, sexier. I’m also doing a lot of fight scenes which is good because I will be able to use everything that I learned in my training in muay thai and boxing. I really gave time to training and now, I can put what I learned to good use.”
It’s all about career now for Andrea. After breaking up with her last boyfriend, she decided she wants to channel all her efforts to progress as an actress. She doesn’t see herself in a new relationship any time soon.
“Ayoko muna. Anyway, I’m happy in my life even without a boyfriend. I have my family, I have my career, I have my friends so I still feel complete. Anyway, I’m still young so I might as well spend my time taking care of my career. Wala munang lovelife,” she decided.
Although Rochelle Pangilinan and fiance Arthur Solinap are in the thick of preparing for their August wedding, they don’t allow the pressure to get the better of them. They may be stressed out with all the details, but they see to it they don’t fight over anything. Instead, they discuss everything as two mature and loving people.
“Rochelle is the one who’s so hands-on. Pati invitation pinakikialaman niya,” Arthur said as he teasingly looked at Rochelle.
“Gusto ko lang kasi it’s my own handwriting on the invitation. Actually nga, nae-enjoy namin yung preps sa wedding. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event so we told each other to enjoy it every step of the way,” Rochelle added.
August 8—their anniversary as boyfriend-girlfriend—is the exact date of their wedding. They will be married in Christian rites in Tagaytay, and shared with Showbuzz a few other details.
“Among our principal sponsors are Tito, Vic and Joey, Atty. Gozon, and ‘yung ibang tito at tita namin,” said Rochelle.
“Included also in the entourage are my cousins Dingdong (Dantes) and Carlo (Gonzales) as my best men. Tapos kay Rochelle naman sina Alessandra (De Rossi), Glaiza (De Castro), Andrea (Torres), Max (Collins) at saka yung mga kasamahan niya dati sa Sexbomb,” Arthur added.
Their honeymoon will be delayed by a few months because both of them have new shows scheduled.
“But the delay will just be for a couple of months,” Arthur quipped. “I want her to get pregnant before the end of the year. Baby na agad!”
“That’s what we’ve agreed on, to have a baby soonest after the wedding. Of course, I am ready, very much ready,” Rochelle cooed.
SHORTS… Is there a KimKen romance brewing? A source whispered to Showbuzz that Kapuso lead actor Ken Chan and morena beauty Kim Rodriguez are now playing beautiful music together. Is it true that they shower each other with “I-love-you’s” in their private messages and even on social media.
There’s no confirmation yet from either of them but they have been friends since they were together in the Sunday series “Tween Hearts” some years back. They had no projects together after that but kept their friendship going—possibly to taking it to another level if the buzz is true.
