Low Profile ruled the prestigious Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Presidential Gold Cup held at the San Lazaro Hippodrome in Carmona, Cavite recently.
Skyway, ridden by jockey Apoy Asuncion took the early lead while Dewey Boulevard was at second, Lakan and Hook Shot at third and fourth while Low Profile was initially at fifth place. Last year’s tournament winner Dixie Gold was at sixth.
Trailing behind at No.2 for most of the race, Low Profile suddenly pulled off a blistering run in the final stretch of the race to snatch the biggest purse in this year’s racing calendar.
The horse, ridden by veteran jockey Mark Alvarez was as one of the favorites even before the event for its dominance of the Freedom Cup, the Commissioner’s Cup and the Silver Cup earlier in the year.
Ruben Dimacuha’s entry posted a time record of two minutes and seven seconds beating early leader Skyway by two lengths in the final 100 meters of the track.
With the win, Low Profile and his team claimed a total prize of P3 million plus the P1 million bonus prize pledged by the Philippine Racing Commission.
A total of 13 horses competed in the 44th edition of the 2000-meter annual sprint, among them Gentle Strength, Court of Honour, Marinx, Cats Dream, Dinalupihan and Tan Goal.
