The people of Capiz do not support Sen. Grace Poe because of her ties with former Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante or the brains behind the P728 million fertilizer fund scam, the camp of Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd said Friday.
Akbayan party-list Rep. Ibarra Gutierrez, spokesperson of the LP-led coalition for the 2016 polls, accused Poe of hanging around with shady individuals when asked about Poe’s claim that she and her running mate, Sen. Francis Escudero, were barred from holding consultations with students in a school in Roxas City, Capiz.
The venue for the consultations was then transferred to a mall, but it didn’t push through
as well and reasons for such were not disclosed. Capiz is the birthplace and hometown of Roxas.
“The people of Capiz are smart. It’s clear to them who they should support. And since Senator Poe’s event did not push through, it is an indication that the people of Capiz do not like her. And that is not surprising because a supporter of Senator Poe in Capiz used to run for Vice Governor with Jocjoc Bolante,” Gutierrez told reporters.
Gutierrez was referring to Mark Ortiz who is one of the leaders of Grace Poe for President Movement in Capiz. Bolante and Ortiz ran for Capiz Governor and Vice Governor in the 2010 polls, but both lost.
“We should remember that Jocjoc Bolante has been at the center of the fertilizer fund scam, a person who stole millions from government coffers. And his people are the ones making moves in support of Senator Poe in Capiz. Maybe that is the reason (why the event did not push through),” Gutierrez added.
The P728 million fertilizer fund was allegedly diverted by Bolante to the campaign warchest of then reelectionist President Gloria Arroyo during the fraud marred 2004 elections. Arroyo won over Poe’s father, actor Ronald Allan Poe aka Fernando Poe, Jr., by a million votes.
“Instead of coming up with conspiracy theories, she should think that maybe, the people of Capiz do not want to come to her event because the names of the people who support her stinks,” Gutierrez said.
