LP members to vie for Leyte congress post

It looks like members of the Liberal Party (LP) will be facing each other in the next year’s elections in the 4th congressional district of Leyte.

This came after Mayor Edward Codilla of Ormoc City and his wife Violeta Trangia Codilla joined the Liberal Party on September 7 in Manila.

The Codillas brought with them incumbent Isabel, Leyte Mayor Greg Cerillo and Merida, Leyte Vice Mayor Marthon Solaña.

Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez, the Liberal Party District Chairman, said in a radio interview that she was not informed that the Codillas and the two other officials joined the LP last month.

She believes there was an overlapping of position when her main opponent in the local positions joined the LP.

But Violeta Codilla, in a separate radio interview, said they were not forced to join the party.

Codilla plans to run in the 4th congressional district of Leyte against Gomez. Codilla is the daughter of the former 4th District Rep. Eufrocino M. Codilla Sr.

For the 2016 polls, it’s the Codilla couple against the Gomez couple.

Incumbent Ormoc Mayor Edward Codilla will seek a reelection to face Gomez’s husband, actor Richard Gomez.

Lucy Torres-Gomez will seek re-election and will have the mayor’s wife as her contender.
