MANILA: President Benigno Aquino III on Monday said the Liberal Party (LP) is not worried about the expected announcement on Wednesday by Senator Grace Poe of her political plans.
“No, we are not worried. I think the party stands on a particular platform. We are moving away from personality politics to platform-based politics,” he told reporters in an interview at the Iloilo Convention Center.
The President had several meetings with Poe for a possible tandem with LP presidential candidate – former Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas.
However, the meetings did not ended based on what the ruling party hoped for since Poe still has to finalize her plans.
Thus, names of several personalities came up as Roxas’ possible running mate and these included Senator Alan Cayetano, Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, and Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo.
President Aquino declined to answer questions whether LP has decided on who to team up with Roxas saying the latter has the last say on this.
“Palagay ko I cannot speak at this point in time if we’ve narrowed down but we do have criteria as to whom. And at the end of the day, siyempre, ang aming standard-bearer will have the biggest say as to who he wants as a running mate,” he added.
