SENATOR Franklin Drilon said the Liberal Party (LP) would demand a public apology from Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos for her unfounded claim that “yellow forces” wanted her detained.
“We demand an apology from Imee Marcos,” Drilon said. The other LP senators are Paolo Benigno Aquino 4th, Ralph Recto, and Francis Pangilinan.
Drilon, LP vice chairman, issued the statement after Marcos retracted her previous allegations that the LP was involved in an alleged P100-million payoff to some members of the House of Representatives in exchange of her detention.
Marcos, who finally showed up on Tuesday at the House of Representatives that was investigating the alleged misuse of P66 million in tobacco funds, had retracted on her accusation and apologized to the LP.
Her appearance also resulted in the release of six government employees whom the House detained for more than a month for keeping mum on the controversy. BERNADETTE E. TAMAYO
