Flashfloods and landslides threaten most of the Visayas and Mindanao, triggered by the low pressure area (LPA) in Surigao City, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday.
The LPA could develop into a tropical cyclone if it gains strength while crossing the Sulu Sea, PAGASA said.
Once it intensifies into a tropical depression inside the country, the LPA will be named “Kiko” -– the first cyclone to affect the country this month and the 11th this year.
Visayas and the regions of Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao will be cloudy with moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
Most parts of Luzon including Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region and the rest of Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate showers and thunderstorms.
Strong winds from the northeast to northwest will blow over Mimaropa, Bicol, Visayas and Mindanao and coastal waters in these areas will be moderate to rough.
