TWELVE people, six children among them, were hurt when a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank exploded inside a house at Barangay Longos, Kalayaan town, Laguna province on Wednesday night.

Rommel Palacol, head of the Action Center of Laguna Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said on Thursday that the victims suffered 1st to 3rd degree burns because of the blast.

He identified the victims as Richard Belgica Sr., and his family members Richard Jr., Jennalyn Mae, John Efren, Ester, Jing-jing, Roderick, Princess Chloe. Also hurt were Aira Thea Endiente, Geraldine Villanueva, Bernadette Berin and Daisy Likigan.

Palacol, however, did not disclose the victims’ age and their relationship with each other.

Initial investigation revealed that Roderick Belgica was fixing the faulty hose of the LPG tank under a light of a candle, when the hose caught fire and the tank exploded. There was a power outage in the area when the incident happened.

Belgica, among other victims who are still recovering from the blast, is in critical condition at Gen. Cailles Hospital in Pakil town.
