ZAMBOANGA CITY: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Region 9 announced that 10 sets of breath analyzer apparatus are expected to arrive in preparation for the implementation of Republic Act No. 10586, or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.
Lawyer Aminola Abaton, LTO regional director, said on Thursday the implementation of RA 10586 here in the region would start after the Holy Week.
Abaton said a team from the LTO Central Office’s Traffic Safety Division will conduct information dissemination here before RA 10586 is implemented.
Abaton said the 10 sets of breath analyzer apparatus will be distributed to the LTO offices in this city, Isabela City, Dipolog City and Pagadian City.
Abaton warned drivers against violating RA 10586 as stiff penalties include imprisonment.
He said the penalties for the first offenders without injury or death range from P20,000 to P80,000 or imprisonment of three months.
He said the penalty will be as high as P300,000 to P500,000 for offense that results to injury or death.
He said the license of holders of professional driver’s license would be perpetually revoked even though they are first offenders.
He said a 12-month suspension will be slapped on Non-Professional Drivers License holders for the first offense and revocation of license for the second offense.
