LTO PROPOSES REWARD AND PUNISHMENT FOR DRIVERS

0

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday proposed a merit and demerit system that will reward drivers who obey traffic rules and punish those with bad records. LTO spokesperson Jason Salvador said obedient drivers may enjoy a longer validity period for their licenses while the punishment is shortening of validity to a few months – or even suspension or revocation. Under Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, driver’s licenses, except student permits and those issued for the first time, are valid for three years unless suspended or revoked. The law also provides that if the holder of the driver’s license does not violate any traffic law, then his or her license shall be valid for five years.
