• Luistro: Bare lumad schools occupied by soldiers

EDUCATION Secretary Armin Luistro on Tuesday challenged militant groups protesting to give him a list of lumad community schools in Mindanao that are allegedly occupied by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and were ordered to close down. He was referring to the Save Our Schools Network, a group fighting for the rights of indigenous peoples (IPs), who staged a protest action on Tuesday to denounce the agency’s alleged failure to address the demand of lumad students to put an end to military abuses in their schools and communities. The Education department has reiterated that military presence inside school premises is strictly prohibited to avoid disruption of classes.
