Luistro decries killing of teacher

BATANGAS CITY, Batangas: A 48-year old head teacher was shot dead by motorcycle-riding men in Rosario town on Thursday afternoon.

The killing has been denounced by Education Secretary Armin Luistro.

Senior Supt. Omega Fidel, Batangas police director, on Friday identified the victim as Macario Perez, head of Gregorio Sison Memorial Elementary School in Munting Tubig, Ibaan, Batangas.

According to a report, Perez was waiting for a bus ride along the highway in Barangay Poblacion A after attending a seminar at Rosario East Central Elementary School when he was gunned down around 3:30 p.m.

He was brought to Maderazo Hospital for treatment but was declared dead there by his attending physician.

Witnesses said the suspects fled on board a Sky Blue Suzuki Raider 125 motorcycle toward Padre Garcia, Batangas.

Luistro personally visited the wake and condemned the attack on the public school teacher.

“We strongly condemn the brutal killing and we call on the authorities to act swiftly and bring justice to teacher Macario, his family and the community he has selflessly served for the past years,” he said in a statement.

Luistro also on Friday visited the wake of Perez in Ibaan, Batangas, to pay respects to his family.

Last November 20, three people in different parts of Batangas were also gunned down by motor-cycle-riding men.
