Rising Luzon boxer Pete Apolinar showcased anew his tremendous punching scoring a seventh round technical knockout victory over Boyce Sultan of Zamboanga Del Norte in Duelo sa Toledo 3 at the Marcelo Barba Sports Complex in Toledo City, Cebu late Friday.
Sultan managed to land some crisp punches on Apolinar in the first and second round.
But the 20-year-old boxer from San Pablo, Laguna relied on fast counter-punching combinations in the first sixth rounds to soften his foe. He delivered a strong hook on Sultan as a coup de grace forcing the referee to stop the fight with 1:08 left in the seventh round.
“The referee stopped the fight with only one minute and eight seconds left in the seventh because he’s not responding to my punches. It was a tough fight but I hit him with massive combinations that hit his jaw,” said Apolinar, who recorded a back-to-back win this year.
Apolinar’s win-loss record improved to 7-1 with six knockouts before the year ends.
The 22-year-old Sultan’s win-loss-draw record dropped to 8-6-1 with five knockouts.
The boxing tournament was organized by ALA Boxing promotion to discover fresh talents.
