• Lynch eyeing retirement, Seahawks exec says

LOS ANGELES: Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch could be headed for retirement from the NFL, Seahawks general manager John Schneider said on Friday (Saturday in Manila).

“I know that we’re going to treat him with as much respect as we possibly can here and give him a little leeway to kind of find his way in terms of what he wants to do,” Schneider said in a radio interview with 710 ESPN Seattle. “But I’m under the impression that he’s leaning toward retirement.”

In a later interview Schneider backtracked a bit, saying “with Marshawn, you never really know.”

Lynch, known for shrugging off opposing defenders and brushing off media, struggled through an injury-plagued year with hamstring trouble and then abdominal surgery.

He played in only seven games of the 16-week-long NFL regular season and finished with just 417 rushing yards on 111 carries.

Lynch, 29, returned for the Seahawks’ second-round playoff game against Carolina last week but had little impact in Seattle’s 31-24 loss to the Panthers.
