The Philippine Italian Association, in cooperation with the Tanghalang Pilipino Foundation and the Cultural Center of the Philippines, will bring back to the stage multi-awarded steampunk musical, Mabining Mandirigma, at the CCP Little Theater on December 2.

Mabining Mandirigma, or Gentle Hero, is a modern musical conceptualized by Tanghalang Pilipino, and was created to celebrate the 150th birthday of our national hero Apolinario Mabini. History books also called him the “Sublime Paralytic.”

Through its superb acting, music and libretto, audience are transported in time to the turn of the 20th century, to the struggle of Filipinos fighting for their ever elusive independence, inspired and led by one brilliant, fearless visionary. A huge success with the general public during its first run, the musical earned phenomenal acclaim among critics here and abroad.

Written by Nicanor Tiongson and directed by Chris Millado, it underlines important themes such as integrity, love of country and intellectual heroism, relevant to our countrymen within the context of our history. It was immediately perceived as a masterpiece earning 12 out of 13 awards at the Gawad Buhay Awards in 2015.

The Philippine Italian Association is honored to have the opportunity to bring this modern masterpiece to our beloved countrymen and to the foreign community who have made the Philippines their temporary home. By this the non-stock non-profit organization, headed by its president Nedy Tantoco of Rustans Commercial Corporation, hopes to inspire audiences and bring light to important events that occurred during the Philippines’ colorful history.
