• Magnitude 4.0 quake jolts Batangas


    A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck Batangas province on Sunday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

    In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at 8:27 am, the epicenter was traced 22 kilometers northwest of Calatagan in Batangas.

    The agency noted the tremor was felt at Intensity 2 felt in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.

    The agency said the quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a shallow depth of 106 kilometers.

    Phivolcs said there was no casualty or damage reported from the temblor and no aftershocks were expected from it.

    The Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where 20 to 25 earthquakes per day — mostly imperceptible — are common. PNA
