A magnitude 5.0 quake struck the province of Batangas and was felt also in Metro Manila on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvocs). In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at 12:09 a.m. with its epicenter traced 22 kilometers southwest of Nasugbu in Batangas at Intensity 3. Phivolcs added that the tremor was felt at Intensity 2 in the cities of Pasay, Manila, Muntinlupa and Quezon. The agency noted that the quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 109 kilometers. Phivolcs said there was no casualty or damage reported from the temblor but aftershocks are expected.
