A magnitude-5.2 earthquake jolted the province of Cagayan on Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its bulletin, the agency said the tremor occurred at 4:27 a.m. with its epicenter traced 45 kilometers southwest of Calayan in Cagayan.

Phivolcs said the temblor, which was tectonic in origin, had a shallow depth of 19 kilometers.

The agency noted that there was no casualty or damage reported from the quake and no aftershocks were expected from the quake.

The Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where 20 to 25 earthquakes per day — mostly imperceptible — are common, Phivolcs said. PNA
