MAGUINDANAO: The provincial government of Maguindanao was given an award for good governance by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) after passing five out of six sets of governance assessment for 2014.
The DILG award, which was signed by Undersecretary Austre Panadero, lauded the provincial government for its good financial housekeeping, disaster preparedness, business-friendliness and competitiveness, peace and order, and environmental management.
According to Lynette Estandarte, provincial budget officer, Gov. Esmael Mangudadatu received the award on Tuesday in Davao City during a training workshop conducted by the DILG and the Civil Service Commission.
Mangudadatu welcomed the award and thanked the constituents of Maguindanao as he also asked them to continue to be united for peace and development in the province.
Maguindanao was noted as one of the poorest province in the country, which the provincial government is trying to resolve through various projects including the use of idle farm lands to provide jobs for the people.
The award was welcomed by the officials after the province bore witness to two brutal incidents, the Maguindanao massacre in 2009 and the Mamasapano bloody encounter in January this year.
