Maguindanao villages flooded


COTABATO CITY: Sultan sa Barongis in the province of Maguindanao was placed under state of calamity as the water level increased in Liguasan Marsh and thousands of villagers from 15 barangays were displaced, authorities said.

There are 15 villages in Sultan sa Barongis town, located near the marsh, that were flooded with waters reaching as high as five feet and affecting about 25,000 individuals, who fled to safer grounds.

There were also more or less 15,000 persons displaced from other low-lying towns of Maguindanao namely Datu Paglas, Mangudadatu, Pandag, Paglat, Rajah Buayan, Buluan and Datu Salibo, according to social welfare officials.

The provincial government of Maguindanao has dispatched their relief team and started providing assistance to displaced residents alongside with other concerned agencies monitoring the flood.
