Mahindra team manager Eric Pineda confirmed on Tuesday that the team has signed Georgia Tech standout James White for its campaign in the upcoming Philippine Basketball Association Season 41 Governor’s Cup in July.
Pineda went to the United States with his coaching staff to hold a tryout in Indiana last week, where they met White. The 6’8 White is known as a versatile player sharp in both defensive and offensive aspects.
“We flew to Indiana recently and we saw White. He showed us that he could play very well with our system during the tryout. He will arrive in July,” Pineda told The Manila Times in a phone interview. “We are very confident that we’ll have a good conference.”
“He [White] is very energetic based on what we’ve seen but let’s see if he can really play but I believe he can,” added Pineda.
White, who transferred to Georgia Tech from Arkansas, averaged 9.6 points and five rebounds during his collegiate playing days.
The Enforcers with import Augustus Gilchrist, failed to enter the playoff round of the last Commissioner’s Cup with a 4-7 win-loss record. Mahindra in the upcoming season will lean on Niño Canaleta, Aldrech Ramos, Mike DiGregorio, LA Revilla and rookie Bradwyn Guinto, among others.
