Yes, Maja Salvador can sing, and she has a new CD to prove it

A year after Maja Salvador let it slip on Vice Ganda’s late night talk show Gandang Gabi Vice that her next career goal is to become a recording artist, she has devotedly done the deed, and done it well.

The Legal Wife star launched her debut album this week under record label Ivory Music, fittingly titled Believe.

“Feeling ko hindi mo talaga ma-a-achieve kung ano ang gusto mong gawin kung hindi mo pag-tra-trabahuhan at pag-bubutihan,” she said after impressively singing her carrier single “Dahan-Dahan” live to the surprise of a good sized gathering at a Quezon City restaurant on March 25.

“Kaya ayan, kinaya ko po yon at marunong na po akong kumanta,” she laughed good naturedly.

Thankful to her handlers at Star Magic (ABS-CBN’s talent management arm) for listening to her and allowing her to take on a completely new course in her career, Maja threw herself at rigorous voice lessons with Annie Quintos of The Company to hone the talent she had long been waiting—and wanting—to unleash.

By December 2013, her had work paid off when Ivory Music executives heard “Maja Salvador the singer,” and quickly signed her on for an album.

“Suwerte lang na may nakarinig ng boses ko from Ivory Music and they were willing na gumawa ng album ko!” she laughed again. “Hindi lahat sumusugal na bigyan ng album ang isang artista so I’m very thankful to them.”

The result is an eight-track album produced by award-winning arranger and producer, Jonathan Ong, which aside from the slow, catchy and sexy ditty,  “Dahan-Dahan” also features among others “Halikana,” a collaboration with hip-hop star Abra Maja; a remake of Jaya’s “Wala na Bang Pag-Ibig;” and a song that she co-wrote titled “Buong Gabi” (featuring Project Pinas).

Even with her single already making waves on radio (“Dahan-Dahan” is currently one of the top-selling songs on iTunes), Maja is still amazed she is now a full-fledged recording artist.

“Totoo nga what they say,” she beamed against a backdrop of her album cover. “Believe and it will happen.”

Believe is now available in major record stores and iTunes. The artist will also launch her Ivory Music release on ABS-CBN’s noontime program ASAP 19 today, and live at the TriNoMa Activity Center at 5 p.m.
