• Maja Salvador: Soon to be a ‘legal’ concert artist

Fresh from the success of the riveting ABS-CBN drama series The Legal Wife, TV’s most famous mistress, Maja Salvador, walked through the doors of Jet 7 Bistro in Quezon City on Wednesday, without a trace of the star she has become.

Beautiful as ever, she was still the down-to-earth Maja the showbiz press had come to know when she started her career in 2003. Ever humbly too, she exuded a genuine sense of gratitude that her latest television project with Angel Locsin and Jericho Rosales turned out to be such a huge social phenomenon.

“Nakakagulat talaga yung nangyari sa Legal Wife kahit na pa tapos na yung series ngayon,” she enthused. “Reality lang kasi ang ipinakita namin—totoong emosyon—kaya naka-relate at nagustuhan ng napakaraming tao yung teleserye. Kahit na ako pa yung bag girl sa show!”

Surprisingly, Maja revealed that while she should still be on a high less than a week after the series concluded, she is feeling the jitters over her next big project that is set to happen on July 12.

“It will be my very first concert!” she announced. “Nakaka-nerbyos at kakaibang excitement ang nararamdaman ko at the same time, kasi si–yempre hindi pa rin ako ganon ka-confident sa pagkanta, pero tulad ng sabi ko noon, sobrang in love talaga ako mag-perform at ibang happiness ang naibi–bigay ng pagkan–ta sa akin.”

The actress, who confessed she had always dreamed of becoming a singer, released her debut album, Believe, under Ivory Records in March, which was certified Gold just this month. Selling over 7,500 units, the album’s carrier single “Dahan-Dahan” became a hit in radio stations all over the country, as well as music channels MYX and MTV. The sexy ditty proved that Maja indeed has what it takes to hold a mic and sing.

“I’m so thankful at binigyan ako ng tao ng chance na tanggapin bilang singer, at ito din yung way ko para magpasalamat sa kanila na tinanggap nila ako sa music industry,” she shared.

With Believe a dream come true, so is her first concert at the Music Museum, dubbed, Maj, The Legal Performer.

Funny as her recollections as a wannabe singer are, Maja is, however, taking her first “legal” concert seriously. Just as she did when she prepared for her album, she has turned herself in for grueling voice lessons under the highly respected singing coach, Annie Quintos of The Company.

“Kailangan! I will sing ‘The Legal Wife’ theme song, pati na din medley ng Jaya songs, dahil gustong-gusto ko talaga ang mga kanta niya,” the 25-year-old celebrity excitedly said of her repertoire.

Directed by no less than Johnny Manahan, and with Marvin Querido as musical director, Maja’s fans are definitely in for a treat on her first foray into the concert scene.

“Ang guests ko po ay sila Rayver Cruz, Enchong Dee, Enrique Gil and Piolo Pascual,” she further shared. “At ‘Maj’ ang title ng show kasi yon talaga ang tawag sa akin ng lahat.”

So while as Nicole, Maja was the mistress married women across the country loved to hate; she hopes with all her heart that as Maj, she will be a singer the public will enjoy to see on stage, not just once, but in more concerts to come.

Produced by Hills & Dreams Events Concepts Co., tickets to Maj: The Legal Performer are available at all Ticket World outlets and at the Music Museum.
