BAGUIO CITY: The Commission on Higher Education on Monday reported that six out of 10 college students in higher education institutions in the Cordillera Administrative Region are women. National Statistical Coordination Board regional chief Benjamin Navarro said that since 2008, the annual average of female enrollees is 57.5 percent compared to 42.5 of males. Last year, 64,359 of the 110,028 college students in the region were women. Benguet posted the biggest gender gap of 179 women in every 100 men while Abra has the least with 122 women for every 100 men. Baguio City remains as center of tertiary or college education in Cordillera with 21 out of 56 ( 37.5 percent) Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) located in the country’s summer capital. In 2013, Baguio HEIs had a share of 65,774 or 59.6 percent of the total college enrolment in the region with Saint Louis University, University of Baguio and University of the Cordilleras having the biggest enrollees.
