THE Makabayan bloc on Thursday formally endorsed the tandem of Senators Grace Poe and Francis Escudero, which the group described as the only candidates who could push for genuine social, economic and political reforms.
The endorsement was announced by former Bayan Muna party-list representative Satur Ocampo in a ceremony attended by members and supporters of the militant coalition.
In a prepared statement, Makabayan noted that of all the presidential and vice presidential candidates, it is only the Poe-Escudero team that managed to present a substantive platform of government that could address the country’s problems and provide for the needs of the poor and the Filipino people.
Makabayan bloc is composed of 11 progressive party-list groups including Bayan Muna, Gabriela, Anakpawis, Kabataan, Courage, Migrante, Act-Teachers, Katribu, Akap Bata, Piston, Kalikasan and Aking Bikolnon.
Former Bayan Muna party-list representative Teodoro Casino said the decision to support the candidacy of Poe and Escudero, respectively, is a product of a long consultation process that started early this year. Jefferson Antiporda
