AROUND 600 traffic enforcers under the Makati Public Safety Department (Mapsa) were ordered to undergo a refresher course on good manners and right conduct (GMRC) after complaints in social media. Mapsa enforcers have been criticized and ridiculed in social media sites, like ignoring motorcycle riders without helmet, wrongful apprehensions, extortion and rudeness. Makati Mayor Abby Binay has ordered the retraining of traffic enforcers “to improve their professional competence and instill ethical practices for them to render better public service,” a news release from City Hall said. The training will start on August 27 until Sepember 17. The public is encouraged to report erring Mapsa enforcers through the city’s official Twitter account, @MakatiTraffic, and My Makati on Facebook.
